NFL: Atlanta Falcons Draft Recap
I don’t know what to say about the Falcons. Sean Weatherspoon at #19 was a really good pick, but that’s about it. Dominique Franks has some promise and will probably make the team, but every other pick was just…ehhh…blahhh. Furthermore, the team needed to address the DE position and they didn’t. Final Grade: C . First three picks…
Round 1, Pick #19: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri
- What he brings: Weatherspoon has tremendous size and strength. He also possesses good straight-line speed, which gives him wide range. He has improved his overall ball skills as well as his ability in coverage, and he should be a starting three-down linebacker within a few years.
Round 3, Pick #19: Corey Peters, DT, Kentucky
- What he brings: Peters is a one-gap defensive tackle with adequate quickness and ability to find the ball. He also shows pass-rushing capabilities, but he needs to add more moves to his repertoire. He has an inconsistent motor, which is a concern, and he will probably be a rotational guy.
Round 3, Pick #34: Mike Johnson, OG, Alabama
- What he brings: Johnson is a very intelligent, instinctive and nimble athlete for the position. He does a good job taking proper initial angles and has great lateral movement to reach or cut off defenders down the line of scrimmage. He could develop a more aggressive and tougher mentality and needs to be more of a finisher at this point.
Saints Picked to Win
The New Orleans Saints have been picked to win Sunday’s Super Bowl. Not by me, mind you, but by the ever popular video game, Madden NFL. The video game giant predicts that the final score will be 35-31 in favor of the Saints. It may seem silly, but Madden NFL has been right five times out of the past six seasons.
Who do you think will win?
Favre Couldn’t Hold On
The loss Minnesota Vikings suffered against the New Orleans Saints can’t be heaped all on Brett Favre’s shoulders, but he will get most of the attention. He really put his heart and soul into the game yesterday and you could tell the inner turmoil he was dealing with after throwing that interception with just seconds to go in regulation. The Saints had to go into overtime to put the final nail in the Vikings season and it was bittersweet.
You have to respect what the Saints have accomplished. They spent most of the season undefeated and when it was time to play they came eager and ready. The 31-28 score wasn’t as close as some might think because the Saints defense had the Vikings scrambling and limping most of the game.
Like I said, it was hard to see Favre go out like that, but he’s a hall of famer no matter what.
Good News for Falcons
Tony Gonzalez says he will return to the Atlanta Falcons next season. The veteran tight end has proved to be an invaluable asset to the Falcons franchise, helping them add another offensive weapon to their arsenal.
After just one season with the Falcons he already has 83 catches for 867 yards and six touchdowns.
What do you think of Gonzalez as a Falcon?
